Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy has called for the strengthening of cross-sectoral cooperation for accelerating the handling of stunting and extreme poverty.

"Strengthen cross-sectoral collaboration and cooperation in the acceleration of stunting and extreme poverty handling, starting from the government, community, academicians, the world of business, and mass media," he said here on Thursday.

He added that cross-sectoral collaboration and partnership networks are key for accelerating stunting and extreme poverty handling programs.

Companies in regions also need to be encouraged to optimize the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund to support those programs, he said.

"Companies' CSR is expected to be used to develop facilities and infrastructure, such as roads, environmental sanitation, drinking water, clean water, or others that are needed to support stunting and extreme poverty handling programs," he added.

The minister then urged regional governments to build cross-sectoral coordination, including with companies. That is expected to boost the optimization of stunting and extreme poverty handling programs in each region.

"Stunting and extreme poverty handling programs are two priority agendas that need to receive attention," he remarked.

Therefore, cross-sectoral cooperation and collaboration are essential so that the government's stunting reduction and extreme poverty eradication targets can be realized well.

He said that his ministry has continued to carry out a virtual roadshow on stunting reduction and extreme poverty eradication targeting all regional governments in the country.

Indonesia's stunting prevalence in 2022 declined by 2.8 percentage points to 21.6 percent from 24.4 percent in 2021, based on the 2022 Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI). Meanwhile, the Indonesian government is aiming to reduce the stunting prevalence to 14 percent by 2024.

In addition, the government is aiming to reduce the extreme poverty rate from 4 percent or 10.86 million people in 2021 to zero percent by 2024.
