Pangkalpinang (ANTARA) - State-owned tin mining firm PT Timah Tbk distributed as many as 14,400 packages of Ramadan goods in the provinces of Riau Islands and Bangka Belitung in order to help the local poor community.

"This is one testament of our concern towards people's welfare. Hopefully, these packages will help to enable the poor to meet their needs during the month of Ramadan," Head of Corporate Communications of PT Timah Tbk Anggi Siahaan stated in Pangkalpinang, Tuesday.

The packages have been distributed to each operational region of the company since the start of the holy month. Siahaan said that in some areas, such as West Bangka, the packages were distributed directly to the homes of the recipients.

"There were also some distributed through the help of village officials," he affirmed.

Siahaan noted that in addition to the nine essential goods distributed to the community in general, PT Timah has provided support for orphan children, the poor, Quran recitation tutors, and mosque marbots.

Head of Air Limau Village, West Bangka Regency, Mexsidiansah lauded PT Timah for conducting the aid program. He said the packages have been successfully distributed to as many as 200 villagers.

"These aids will be distributed to those who have not received them either through the Family Hope Program (PKH), Direct Cash Assistance (BLT), Non-cash Food Assistance (BNPT), or any other programs. Hopefully, the aid will help to establish social equity to eradicate social inequality among community members in the village," he remarked.

The village head further noted that this was not the first time that PT Timah had conducted such a program. According to Mexsidiansah, PT Timah has been frequently helping the community in environmental, social, and religious fields, among others.

"On behalf of the people of Air Limau, we (village officials) are grateful for what PT Timah has been doing. We pray for PT Timah to be more advanced, successful, and also helpful to the community," the village head remarked.
