Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Directorate General of Sea Transportation of the Transportation Ministry is working to ensure that logistics activities continue to run smoothly during the 1444 Hijri Eid al-Fitr holiday.

The ministry earlier issued the Circular of the Director General of Sea Transportation Number AL.203/1/7/DJPL/2023 to all Technical Implementation Units (UPTs) under the directorate general to regulate the operational hours of loading and unloading activities at ports during the holiday.

All UPTs were asked to coordinate with other stakeholders regarding the loading and unloading operational hour regulation, Director General of Sea Transportation at the ministry Arif Toha said in a statement received on Sunday.

Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of fasting month of Ramadhan, is estimated to fall on April 21 this year. The government has scheduled joint leaves from April 19–25, 2023.

The director general said that the operating hour regulation aims to allow the smooth distribution of basic commodities, essential materials, and other goods to meet the needs of the local community during the Islamic holy day.

"Thus, (port) service users do not need to worry during this Eid al-Fitr holiday as the port will continue to serve loading and unloading activities according to the needs in the area,” he explained.

He said that people also do not need to be concerned about basic commodity supplies because the directorate general will continue to carry out loading and unloading services optimally.

Earlier, the directorate general held a gathering to prepare for the establishment of the 2023 Eid al-Fitr sea transportation post at the passenger terminal of Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta, on April 6.

The post will operate round-the-clock from April 7 to May 8 and monitor the security and safety of shipping activities during the homecoming and return exodus.

The ministry has also prepared 15 passenger ships with a total capacity of 16,767 passengers at Tanjung Priok Port.

The government has forecast that about 123 million people will join this year's Eid exodus.
