Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry proposes a relaxation of restrictions on the logistic transportation of goods in order to prevent a shortage of food during the 2023 Eid al-Fitr.

Ministry's Director General of Agro-Industry Putu Juli Ardika said that his side had coordinated with the Ministry of Transportation and the National Police's Food Task Force regarding concerns over the scarcity of gallons of drinking water in the community due to restrictions on logistics transportation during Eid al-Fitr.

"The bottled water industry (AMDK) was a bit worried about the distribution of bottled water in gallons because the fleet used is more efficient with three axles. Others can use two axles," he stated at the 2023 Eid Bazaar held by the Industry Ministry in Jakarta on Tuesday.

During a meeting with the Transportation Ministry and Food Task Force, Ardika expressed hope over the relaxation of restrictions on goods transportation, especially for gallons of bottled water.

He said that three axles were required to transport a gallon of drinking water for more efficient transportation and distribution.

However, transportation with three axles or more as well as transportation with a load of more than 14 tons will be limited during the 2023 Eid homecoming.

Ardika expressed optimism that related parties would consider allowing the transportation of goods during the Eid homecoming to meet the supply of people's food needs.

"We have submitted the results of the meeting to be followed up later and become a consideration to allow the transportation of goods. Not all of them but only to meet the people's needs," he remarked.

In addition, he appointed a Person in Charge (PIC) to handle on-field complaints or problems regarding these restrictions.

"If companies and associations encounter problems regarding transportation, they can report to the Director of Food and Seafood Products, while for issues related to drinks, they can report to the Director of Refreshment Drinks. We are also coordinating with the Food Task Force and the Directorate General of Land Transportation," he stated.

However, he ensured that all parties should not harbor concerns regarding food supply and distribution during the Eid holiday.

"People should not worry. The food commodities are available. Do not let the transportation problems become an obstacle to fulfill the people's needs," he remarked.
