Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government will promote electric vehicle (EV) utilization and EV industry development through international events, secretary of the State Secretariat Ministry Setya Utama said here on Monday.

As part of this push, EVs will be utilized during international events this year, such as the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.

The government will partner with several car companies that will provide EVs for the summit participants.

"The use of electric cars at international events has become part of the Indonesian government's policy to support the electric car industry to be able to develop the use of green and blue energy in Indonesia," Utama said.

The use of electric cars at international events has become an opportunity for the government to promote the use of electric cars and the development of the domestic electric car industry.

According to Utama, the government will also use EVs for other international events such as the ASEAN Summit Plus in Jakarta and Archipelagic and Island States Summit in Bali.

On Monday, a symbolic handover of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 electric car, as the operating vehicle for the participants of the 42nd ASEAN Summit, was organized.

A total of 117 Hyundai IONIQ 5 cars will serve as operating vehicles for ministers, protocol officials, and security officers, and as safety cars during the summit.

In addition to Hyundai, the government will also cooperate with several other EV producers, such as BMW, Toyota, and Wuling, as the providers of EVs that will be used as operating vehicles during international events, Utama informed.

He said he expects that the electric car industry in Indonesia will grow even more with the construction of new electric car factories, which can absorb many workers.

The new factories can also utilize mineral materials that come from within the country to create batteries that can contribute to Indonesia's economic growth.
