The more people pay zakat, the bigger and broader the benefits the people can derive from it
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin supports the idea of improving the people's welfare and eradicating poverty through the distribution of zakat (alms).

"We can treat zakat as a supporting pillar in the efforts to improve the people's welfare and for empowerment in tandem with the poverty eradication efforts that we are currently prioritizing," the VP stated in his brief video broadcast during the 2023 National Zakat Day, as observed in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Amin encouraged zakat activists to partake in raising people's awareness by massively echoing the importance of zakat to all levels of society.

The VP also emphasized the far-reaching positive impacts of zakat payment and distribution, so that more people can benefit from it.

He called on all Muslims to set aside part of their sustenance to fulfill the zakat obligation.

"The more people pay zakat, the bigger and broader the benefits the people can derive from it. Therefore, invite all Muslims to bolster their passion in zakat," he remarked.

During the 2023 National Zakat Day, Amin expressed hope that Indonesia would achieve a higher level of prosperity and welfare through zakat distribution.

"Let us continue expanding the benefits of zakat for the sake of a more prosperous Indonesia, baldatun thayyibatun wa rabbun ghafur (a good nation and ever-forgiving God). I wish you a happy 2023 National Zakat Day," the VP concluded.
