Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, appealed to Muslims to celebrate Eid al-Fitr in simplicity.

"All Muslims do not need to show who is the most victorious. Let us celebrate Eid al-Fitr in simplicity and welcome it with joy," Effendy stated after the Eid prayer at the Muhammadiyah Central Executive Building in Jakarta, Friday.

In addition, he reminded all Muslims to not be bothered about winning since it is not certain as to whether they had conducted fasting properly during Ramadan.

"It is better for us to stabilize ourselves to worship and surrender to God as well as increase our hard work because one of the signs of a person who is dedicated to God is their willingness to work hard to succeed in their life," the minister remarked.

Effendy also noted that during the Eid celebration, people often say "Taqobalallahu minna wa minkum," which means "May Allah accept our good deeds and all your good deeds."

"Hence, through these words, before we ask for all kinds of things, we should ask God to accept all of our prayers and worship during Ramadan," he remarked.

Earlier, the Ministry of Religious Affairs had decided that Eid al-Fitr 1 Shawwal would fall on April 22. However, the Muhammadiyah Central Executive (PP) had decided to conduct Eid prayers on Friday.

The decision was taken following an isbat (confirmation) meeting on Thursday.

"Based on a hisab (astronomical observation), the position of the crescent moon in Indonesia is above the horizon and does not meet the new MABIMS (the Association of the Ministries of the Religious Affairs from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore) criteria, as well as the absence of seeing the crescent moon. The isbat meeting determines that 1 Shawwal 1444 H falls on Saturday, April 22, 2023," Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas confirmed on Thursday.

Based on information from Secretary of the At-Tanwir Mosque of the PP Muhammadiyah office, Zainal Abidin, the Eid prayer held at the PP Muhammadiyah Building field today exceeded the quota from an estimated one thousand people to around two thousand people. Hence, some people offered the Eid prayer on the Menteng street roadside and at the Canisius College field.
