Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian speed climber Veddriq Leonardo set a new world record of a sub-five-second climb at the 2023 International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup in Seoul, South Korea, on Friday.

In the qualifying round of the men’s speed event, Leonardo raced up a 15-meter wall in 4.98 seconds to secure a place in the final round, where he will compete with 15 athletes, according to IFSC’s records.

He broke the previous record of 5.00 seconds set by his compatriot Kiromal Katibin at the 2022 IFSC World Cup in Chamonix, France.

This is Leonardo’s second world record at the World Cup after 2021 IFSC World Cup in Salt Lake City, the United States, when he posted a time of 5.20 seconds.
