The MPR has asked the government to develop the quality of human resources so that the demographic bonus can align with technological developments and the growing variety of jobs.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Bambang Soesatyo has asked the government to ensure that Indonesia's demographic potential aligns with rapidly growing technological advances.

"The MPR has asked the government to develop the quality of human resources so that the demographic bonus can align with technological developments and the growing variety of jobs," he said here on Tuesday.

Technological advancement may cause a loss of 23 million jobs in 2030, as recently stated by chairperson of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Arsjad Rasjid, he pointed out.

According to Rasjid, rapidly growing automation in the Revolution 4.0 era has not been accompanied by the development of required skills and capabilities in human resources (HR).

Therefore, the MPR Speaker asked the government to pay attention and anticipate these risks so that the peak of the demographic bonus in 2030 can bring positive results.

He also asked the central government to coordinate with local governments to intensify empowerment programs for developing human resource competency across Indonesia.

“(The government must work) To improve the workforce competency in Indonesia, especially in the technology and digital fields," he said.

Soesatyo further said that the government must always be ready for all technological and digital developments, especially to support people who live in remote regions and find it difficult to access technology.

According to him, this is important considering that the unemployment rate is still high even though the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic is over.

He emphasized that labor-related problems must be the government’s priority.

He also asked the government to continue to optimize job creation efforts, especially in labor sectors that still use manual processes, by creating innovations.

"Empower labor human resources in certain sectors that still have to be done manually,” he said.
