"This is our collective duty. We compel Trilogy University, Mr. Rector, and all officials to collaborate, work together to create many superior human resources," Secretary General of the ministry Anwar Sanusi said in an official statement received here on Saturday.
The MoU was signed on Saturday as part of an effort to develop manpower capacity in order to meet the demands of the job market.
Sanusi said that currently, there are four challenges that workers are facing. The first one is the disruption caused by digital technology, which has greatly changed everything, including manpower aspects, he noted.
One of the effects of this disruption has been the emergence of new types of jobs, which have replaced obsolete ones, he said.
"To answer to this issue, there needs to be the right measure," he added.
The second is related to human resource development, he said.
To date, Indonesia's workforce is dominated by people with middle school education or lower; and the percentage of people with this level of education exceeds 56 percent.
This data shows that the ministry needs to work with varsities for improving human resource capability, he pointed out.
The third challenge is the demographic bonus, which, if managed right, will greatly benefit the country, he said.
This is because it would generate economic growth and create welfare, he added.
Failure to properly manage the demographic bonus would lead to social issues such as unemployment, Sanusi said.
The fourth issue is the lower productivity rate of the Indonesian workforce compared to other ASEAN member countries, he added.
