One of the contributions was made back in 2022, during which 12 percent of Japan's foreign direct investment had been sourced to ASEAN members.
"In terms of trade, the total value of Japan's export and import with the ASEAN grew to 11.6 percent in 2022," Minister Indrawati noted on her official Instagram handle, @smindrawati, as quoted here on Wednesday.
Apart from economic relations, Japan also plays an important role in financial cooperation with the group of countries. Through the ASEAN+3 framework established in 1999, Japan has assisted during the tough times of the financial crisis in Asia.
There is a long-standing history of interaction between Japan and Southeast Asia. The connection was created even prior to the Edo period, far before the ASEAN was formed.
When ASEAN finally came into being, Japan became the first discussion partner, cementing its position as ASEAN's trustworthy ally.
Minister Indrawati expressed gratitude for the support given by Japan for the group as well as extended congratulations over the five decades of friendship maintained between the ASEAN and Japan.
"May this (invaluable) friendship open up the pathway to golden opportunities for ASEAN and Japan in the future," she affirmed.
The 50 years of cooperation and friendship between the ASEAN and Japan was the main theme during the ASEAN+3 meeting in Incheon, South Korea, on May 2, 2023.
Following the meeting, Minister Indrawati hosted a bilateral meeting with Japan's Finance Minister Shun'ichi Suzuki to discuss several topics on the relations between Indonesia and Japan.
The topics included the macroeconomics of Indonesia and Japan, Indonesian chairmanship in ASEAN, ASEAN+3 economic collaboration, energy transition mechanism and Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), as well as 50 years of cooperation and friendship between ASEAN and Japan.
