Labuan Bajo, E Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Police Chief Inspector General Johanis Asadoma appealed to West Manggarai residents to maintain security and order in society during the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai District, NTT.

"We urge the community to partake in providing a sense of safety and comfort to the ASEAN countries' delegates as well as to domestic and international tourists, who wish to visit West Manggarai," Asadoma noted while reciting the local community's declaration on safeguarding and supporting the summit in Labuan Bajo, Friday.

On the occasion, the general highlighted the need to suppress criminal threats, especially the conventional ones, so that all delegates and tourists can feel safe.

In his remarks, Asadoma encouraged the local community to work in collaboration to ensure security and order in their respective homes and surroundings.

In the event of unwanted social conflicts, the NTT police chief urged the local community to opt for more responsible measures.

"I hope that the community will settle any likely conflicts by performing the traditional lonto leok customary or sitting in a circle," he noted.

Asadoma reiterated hopes that the community would always maintain concord and harmony in every single aspect of social, national, and state life.

The police general appealed to the community to refrain from being involved in anything that may cause division in the nation.

"Be responsible on social media and do not spread hoaxes and hate speeches that can mislead and provoke the public," he pointed out.

All elements in society, ranging from representatives of religious figures, community leaders, local associations, and organizations, have made a declaration on supporting and safeguarding the ASEAN Summit under collaboration with the regional government and police.

The declaration event was attended by Head of the National Police's Security Maintenance Agency Commissioner Gen. Muhammad Fadil Imran, West Manggarai District Head Edistasius Edi and his deputy Yulianus Weng, and several representatives from the Regional Leadership Communication Forum as well as of the community.
