Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), accompanied by Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, reviewed the Waterfront Marina on Monday, ahead of the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.

"We built this area as well as possible at a considerable budget, so I urge the district head and partners to use and maintain the facilities properly, such as routinely watering the plants at least twice a day," Hadimuljono said here on Monday.

According to him, the Waterfront Marina, which was inaugurated in July 2022, has become the berth of the Ayana Pinisi ship, which is among the supporting facilities prepared for the summit.

Hadimuljono said the area’s development is aimed at creating open and creative spaces for the community and tourists so that they can enjoy the beauty of Labuan Bajo more.

The area has been divided into five zones, namely Zone 1 - Bukit Pramuka, Zone 2 - Kampung Air, Zone 3 - Dermaga (Pier), Zone 4 - Marina Beach, and Zone 5 - Kampung Ujung.

Zones 1 and 2 were established in the period from September 2020 to November 2021 with a budget allocation of Rp81 billion (US$5 million).

Meanwhile, Zones 3 and 5 were built from September 2020 to February 2022 by contractor PT Brantas Abipraya at a budget of Rp207 billion (US$14 million).

Zone 4 includes the Marina Promenade, which is also a supporting infrastructure for the 42nd ASEAN Summit.

The summit’s activities have been scheduled from May 9 to 11, 2023, and will be attended by ASEAN leaders and high officials, who will discuss many issues of interest.

Indonesia's ASEAN chairmanship this year is themed “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth.”

On Monday, President Widodo was scheduled to review the rehearsal for the summit, including at the Hotel Meruorah lobby where ASEAN leaders will be welcomed.
