"This is because, since 2022, the number of measles cases reported in Indonesia has increased compared to the previous year," he said in a statement released on Monday.
"The total reported cases reached 2,161 suspected measles per January 1–April 3, 2023," he pointed out.
He then asked the ministry to promptly carry out a mapping of regions with a high number of measles cases so that additional measles immunization targeting children aged nine months to 15 years can be carried out.
The ministry, along with the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) and the Health Office, has continued the effort to intensify the prevention campaign and introduce additional immunization against measles.
This is expected to raise parents’ awareness about the measles virus and help them understand the importance of complete measles immunization of children.
This is important given that among the confirmed cases, the government has not yet figured out whether 75 percent of patients have received a vaccination or not, he highlighted.
Because of this, the Health Office must continue to monitor the spread of measles cases in all regions.
This could help the government identify the regions that need to be prioritized and where the campaign activity and immunization need to be intensified.
Soesatyo said he expects that the government will prepare budget support in the state budget for preparing health facilities and procuring medicines and vaccines.
This budget support should also be provided for public education on the measles virus, starting from its characteristics to prevention methods.
The Speaker called for the government's commitment to implementing the public health program, specifically for children.
This is because health and early disease prevention are among important assets that can help support the future of the nation children's, he explained.
