Jakarta (ANTARA) - The leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) reiterated that the Five-Point Consensus remains their primary reference in addressing the Myanmar issue.

During the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), ASEAN member states discussed the situations in Myanmar.

"We supported the ASEAN Chair’s continued engagement with all stakeholders in Myanmar to find a peaceful and durable solution, that is, Myanmar-owned and Myanmar-led, to create a conducive environment for facilitating an inclusive national dialogue," the leaders noted in a joint statement posted on the official ASEAN Secretariat website on Thursday.

The ASEAN countries have observed some movements on the humanitarian front, with the completion of the Joint Need Assessment (JNA) by the AHA Centre, as facilitated by the ASEAN Chair and relevant stakeholders in Myanmar.

"We commended the partial delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Myanmar on May 7, 2023, despite the challenging security situation. We strongly condemned the recent attack on the convoy of the AHA Centre and the ASEAN Monitoring Team in Shan State," stated the joint statement.

ASEAN will continue to mobilize additional resources and take the lead in providing humanitarian assistance through the AHA Centre.

The leaders remain deeply concerned about the escalation of armed conflicts and violence in Myanmar.

"We urged for immediate cessation of all forms of violence to create a conducive environment for the delivery of humanitarian assistance and inclusive national dialogues" they stated.

ASEAN also reiterated that the ASEAN Leaders’ Review and Decision on the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus, as agreed upon during the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits, still stand.

Earlier, on Wednesday, during the series of the 42nd ASEAN Summit, the participating countries issued a joint statement to support Indonesia's efforts to continue dialogue with stakeholders in Myanmar.
