Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Social Security Administrator for Health (BPJS Kesehatan) has stated that it consistently ensured that the right to proper medical treatment is upheld for all victims of the bus accident in Guci, Tegal, Central Java.

According to the Managing Director of BPJS Kesehatan, Ali Ghufron Mukti, the principle of portability by BPJS allows participants of the National Health Insurance (JKN) program to access medical services everywhere in Indonesia.

"(It is) no longer limited to address on the ID card or current residence of the participants," he noted in a statement released on Thursday.

"This applies to everyone who is registered in the program, including participants from South Tangerang, who fell victim to the tourist bus accident in Guci, Tegal, some time ago," he remarked.

During his visit to North Serpong Hospital on Wednesday, Mukti stated that the patients treated at the hospital are registered as participants in the insurance program.

Most of them are listed as participants from the South Tangerang segment in the program, he pointed out.

South Tangerang has Universal Health Coverage (UHC) status, which means that over 95 percent of its population is registered in the health insurance program, he noted.

Mukti remarked that the UHC program is a form of the regional government's commitment to protecting its people through the provision of health insurance.

"If the health insurance participants need medical services when they are outside the area they live in, they can still get services, guaranteed as per the applicable procedure and conditions," he stated.

The agency has also arranged for payment for the victims' medical treatment, he remarked. Jasa Raharja, a state-owned social insurance company, will cover expenses of up to Rp 20 million (US$1,359).

Mukti noted that BPJS Kesehatan had visited and conversed with the patients to ensure that they receive good services as per their rights.

He also expressed hope that all victims in the accident would recover as soon as possible while also reminding them to contact BPJS Kesehatan in the event of any issues so that the agency can dispatch its staff to assist them.
