Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) is preparing disabled-friendly access to its public information service at info.go.id, according to Hasyim Gautama, Kominfo's Director for Public Communication Partnership and Governance.

The website will have several features to support people living with disabilities in using it, such as a text resizing tool, a voice guidance feature, as well as a left and right text alignment tool.

"(The development of) these features shows the ministry’s commitment to providing access to public information and communication which is friendly for persons with disabilities," Gautamasaid in a press release on Thursday.

The development of the website is one of his party’s attempts to improve the quality of public communication and information services provided by state institutions.

It is also expected that the website will assist people from various social groups, including individuals living with disabilities, in obtaining trusted information through a more inclusive public communication and information service.

Additionally, Gautama expressed hope that the establishment of the website would encourage other ministries, governmental institutions, and even local governments to provide similar services to help disabled persons obtain adequate information.

According to him, Kominfo has the responsibility to prepare policies and operational standards for the implementation of accessible, reliable, and responsive public communication and information services according to the needs of persons with disabilities.

"These inclusive policies are expected to fulfill the rights of people with disabilities to communicate and access information," he added.

Furthermore, the director said that his party is preparing a draft of a Communication and Information Minister regulation concerning accessible public communication and information services for persons with disabilities to provide disabled-friendly services.

The formulation of the ministerial regulation is in accordance with the mandate of Government Regulation Number 70 of 2019 concerning the planning, implementation, and evaluation of respect, protection, and fulfillment of the rights of persons with disabilities.
