Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry and South Korea agreed to cooperate on the development of an E-mobility center here on Monday.

Ministry official Dadan Kusdiana said that the strategic cooperation project demonstrates the two countries' commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reaching the net-zero carbon target.

"This project has been initiated with the installation of the solar-powered electric vehicle charging system in Indonesia," he informed.

The two countries will cooperate on several programs, including the conversion of fuel oil motorcycles to electric motorcycles and the establishment of electric vehicle (EV) service centers in Indonesia, he added.

They will also work together to accelerate the development of general electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLUs) and general electric vehicle battery charging stations (SPBKLUs).

According to Kusdiana, the cooperation aligns with the Indonesia-Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IK-CEPA) and seeks to strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Moreover, he noted that the commitment to expedite the energy transition and create a better EV ecosystem will be implemented under Indonesia's cooperation with South Korea.

On the occasion, the president of Korea Automotive Technology Institute (KATECH), Na Seung-sik, said that the bilateral cooperation is expected to improve the advanced mobility sector, namely the core sector within the future-oriented industry.

In this global era, Korea and Indonesia need to cooperate and contribute to the world by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving industry competitiveness, he added.

KATECH will make an effort to develop a mutually beneficial E-mobility industry ecosystem through the electric vehicle Official Development Assistance (ODA).

The program will be implemented through a two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicle usage expansion effort, which will include an empirical analysis of infrastructure, EV infrastructure development, and human resources empowerment.

It will also involve the provision of assistance in the formulation of an E-mobility implementation acceleration strategy as well as a policy for its development.

KATECH will also do its best to support the eco-friendly and sustainable transportation system paradigm transition, he added.
