Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has encouraged food company PT Ajinomoto Indonesia to participate in efforts to realize Indonesia's vision of becoming a global halal food producer.

"I expect participation from Ajinomoto (in realizing Indonesia's global halal producer vision), including in green economic development," he said here on Tuesday after receiving representatives of PT Ajinomoto Indonesia at his official residence.

Amin asked the Japanese company to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in running their businesses by using local ingredients from Mojokerto and Karawang areas, where their factories are located.

"Indonesia is building the Halal, Safe, and Healthy Culinary (KHAS) zone in various regions. I think (Ajinomoto) can help provide education to the community in terms of what ingredients from the surrounding regions can be used at Ajinomoto," he explained.

According to him, Ajinomoto can empower local businesses by letting the community in Mojokerto help supply its needs.

He said that a large company must bring benefits and welfare to the surrounding community.

Meanwhile, Director of PT Ajinomoto Indonesia Yudho Koesbandryo conveyed his company's commitment to supporting Indonesia's vision of becoming a major player in the global halal industry.

"We are among the producers who have the first halal certificate in Indonesia, when Mr. Amin was the (leader) of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI)," he said.

PT Ajinomoto Indonesia has begun shifting to the green industry through a policy of reducing the use of plastic materials by 30 percent in its monosodium glutamate (MSG) production, Koesbandryo added.

"We have started an environmental social governance approach and going toward the green industry. One of the things we do is the MSG AJI-NO-MOTO product," he said.

The VP also interacted with Ajinomoto president director Shinichi Matsumoto, vice president director Fumihiro Kobayashi, and general manager Hermawan Prajudi during the meeting.
