"This activity is expected to increase the added value of products and services in the tourism and creative economy sectors, which will encourage product improvement and business competitiveness," he informed here on Wednesday.
The project for branding products with WIPO has been initiated by the ministries of tourism and creative economy and foreign affairs.
Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno and WIPO's Deputy Director for Regional and National Development Sector Hasan Kleib attended the launch of the project in Bali.
Bali's economy still relies completely on the tourism sector, so it must improve and quickly adjust to science and technology, Sukawati noted.
"The development of science and technology, especially digitalization, has a highly dynamic growth. Hence, Bali, which relies on the tourism sector and is supported by small businesses, must be able to adjust to the existing developments," he said.
According to him, the business world must keep pace with digitalization to compete at the global level and to narrow the knowledge gap between developed and developing countries.
"To improve business competitiveness, government's facilitation is necessary to strengthen the identity and uniformity of business quality, one of which is through assisting the ownership of intellectual property rights (IPR) certificates," he said.
Noting the importance of intellectual property in the tourism and creative economy sectors, especially in marketing and business development, Sukawati expressed strong support for the collective push for product branding in Bali.
"I hope this facilitation can enhance the Balinese economy in the creative economy sector and, at the same time, open job opportunities," he said.
