Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is confident that the Attorney General's Office (AGO) will uphold professionalism and transparency in addressing the alleged corruption case involving Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate.

The head of state stressed that the government respects the ongoing legal process.

"We must respect the ongoing legal proceedings," Jokowi stated at the Halim Perdanakusuma Airbase, here on Friday.

He dismissed allegations of the case being politically charged, considering Plate’s position as General Secretary at NasDem party. Jokowi also highlighted that the AGO will be professional and transparent in its line of work.

He also affirmed that Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD will serve as interim Communication and Informatics Minister while Plate is undergoing legal proceedings.

Minister MD had said that he would follow up with the case that involves Plate.

On Wednesday (May 17), investigators for general criminal affairs at AGO had named Plate as a suspect in a case of alleged corruption in the base transceiver station project pursued by BAKTI Kominfo back in the 2020-2022 period.

Head of the Legal Information Center at the AGO Ketut Sumedana noted that the state had suffered Rp8.32 trillion (US$559 million) in losses from the corruption.

The AGO has named five other suspects in the case: Anang Achmas Latif from BAKTI Kominfo, Galubang Menak from PT Mora Telematika Indonesia, expert on University of Indonesia Human Development of 2020 Yohan Suryanto, Mukti Ali from PT Huawei Technology Investment, and Irwan Hermawan from PT Solitchmedia Synergy.
