…we can hope that we will achieve (the inflation rate) target of below 4.3 percent in early June.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Home Minister Tito Karnavian, while attending an inflation control meeting in Jakarta on Monday, conveyed President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi’s) appreciation to regional governments who have managed to control the inflation rate.

In a statement received in Jakarta the same day, Minister Karnavian said that based on a direct assessment conducted during working visits to a number of regions, the Head of State declared that almost all regions are handling inflation very well.

"For that reason, he (Jokowi) would like to extend his gratitude to regional governments leaders who have been successful in controlling inflation," the minister added.

During his working visits, the President found that several regions in the homeland possessed a sound level of comprehension as well as adequate data regarding the dynamics of the prices of commodities, in particular those of basic necessities, he informed.

Furthermore, President Jokowi also carried out first-hand reviews of regional governments' efforts to handle and control issues related to inflation.

Recently, in Jambi, the President lauded the province for successfully suppressing its inflation rate to a level of 3.78 percent. During his visit, Widodo also conducted a direct inspection of the prices of basic necessities at a market.

He found that the prices of rice, cooking oil, and chilies were showing a relatively stable trend.

In order to better control inflation in the future, Minister Karnavian urged all regional governments to build greater understanding about handling inflation rate issues.

He said the governments should track the price dynamics of commodities and basic necessities so that inflation can be handled in a more optimal manner.

Additionally, Karnavian appealed to regional governments to constantly maintain the inflation rate, as the international situation has not yet returned to a stable condition due to the continued impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, the global financial system is still moving dynamically.

"With that in mind, we must stay alert despite the success in controlling inflation. Hopefully, God willing, with all our tremendous efforts, we can hope that we will achieve (the inflation rate) target of below 4.3 percent in early June," he added.
