Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (Kadin’s) China Committee (KIKT) has expressed support for the 2023 Indonesia-China Smart City Technology & Investment Expo, which will be held from May 24 to 26 in Jakarta.

"We invite companies engaged in smart city development, especially companies from China that have experience in the development of Internet-based digital technology and innovation, which is the backbone of smart city development," KIKT chairperson Garibaldi Thohir said in a press release issued here on Monday.

The activity is expected to serve as a forum for exchanging information and carrying out education and promotion as well as exploring opportunities to find the best partners for smart city development in Indonesia, he added.

He also expressed the hope that the expo will further strengthen the cooperation between Indonesia and China in the field of technology.

The expo is being organized by the Chinese Indonesian Association (INTI) and China-ASEAN Information Harbour (CAIH) Co. Ltd., and supported by the Guangdong Overseas Friendship Association (GOFA).

INTI Secretary General Chandra Yap said that the expo is being held to support Indonesia's post-pandemic economic recovery.

"Through this event, we will see various advancements and modernizations in cities and regions that become green cities," he added.

Director of PT CAIH Infotech Indonesia Loretta Thamrin said that Indonesia, as the chair of the 2023ASEAN Smart City Network Summit, can lead other ASEAN countries in the smart city movement, especially through the new capital Nusantara (IKN).

China has experienced very rapid development in technology and become the benchmark of smart city development, she noted.

"We will see how we can transfer technology and knowledge from China to Indonesia so that Indonesia can continue to develop and lead all (of) ASEAN in smart city development," she informed.

The expo is scheduled to be opened by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), with some high officials such as the head of the IKN Authority, Bambang Susantono; State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister, Erick Thohir; and Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, slated to speak at the discussion series.

Some memorandums of understanding (MoU), ranging from the establishment of a herbal technology center, digital economy training center, and a biological technology material industrial park project, will be signed during the expo.
