So far, 10 roads in Riau Province are eligible for immediate fixing by the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Presidential Staff Office (KSP) confirmed that the central government will partake in the work to repair damaged roads in Riau Province.

"So far, 10 roads in Riau Province are eligible for immediate fixing by the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry," senior advisor at the KSP Helson Siagian stated at a meeting in Pekanbaru, according to a statement received here on Tuesday.

At the meeting, they discussed about repairing damaged roads in Riau Province.

He noted that currently, the central government is outlining the necessities based on the central government and people's suggestions given to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

Siagian reminded the regional government to ensure that they have the required items for the road reparation projects, such as aspects related to planning and permits.

The government's initiative to repair Riau's roads is in accordance with President Jokowi's instruction in President Instruction Number 3 of 2023 on Regional Road Connectivity Improvement, he pointed out.

The government has prepared a budget of Rp32.7 trillion (US$2.2 billion) for the 2023-2024 period to repair damaged roads throughout Indonesia, he affirmed.

He highlighted the presidential instruction's focus on establishing connectivity among economic centers and production sites, such as industry, tourism, agriculture, farms, and other productive sectors.

"The presidential instruction is a form of collaboration among central and regional governments to ensure prime condition of regional roads. It should be borne in mind that regional road management is still the responsibility of the provincial government, district government, and municipal government, as per duty and authority of each," Siagian concluded.

Attendees at the meeting also comprised Regional Secretary of Riau S. F. Hariyanto, Head of Bengkalis District Kasmarni, and Head of Pelalawan District Zukri. Some representatives of some regional governments were also present at the meeting aimed at gathering suggestions for road repair.
