Indonesia's presence at the MRT meeting is meant to reflect the support for the development of the trade system, specifically in the Asia-Pacific, and establish mutually beneficial trade relations, he said in a statement released on Wednesday.
"Indonesia supports APEC's effort in developing trade cooperation in the Asia-Pacific that is beneficial for every APEC economy," he added.
"We will attend the APEC MRT meeting to provide support for the trade system established by APEC to develop the region's economy," he continued.
A number of topics will be discussed at the MRT meeting, including APEC's support for the multilateral trade system, interregional capacity development, and goods and services trade facilitation.
The meeting will also discuss interregional connectivity, digitalization, trade sustainability and inclusivity, and innovation in the field of trade.
In addition to attending the MRT meeting, Hasan is scheduled to conduct a bilateral meeting with a number of APEC member economies.
The topics that will be taken up at the meetings will range from improving trade relations to implementing trade cooperation.
APEC is a cooperation forum for 21 economies in the Pacific Ocean. APEC's main activity encompasses economic cooperation, such as in trade and investment, to encourage growth and prosperity improvement in the Asia-Pacific.
APEC's members comprise the United States, Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Chile, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Canada, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Papua New Guinea, China, Russia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
APEC's cooperation is non-political in nature. Its decisions are based on a consensus between its members and are non-binding in nature.
