Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Home Affairs John Wempi Wetipo has informed that the construction of the Papua Pegunungan governor's office will start soon to allow administrative activities to run optimally.

"I ask to clear the construction site land soon, especially the entrance access," he added here on Friday.

According to Wetipo, ceremonies will be held for the laying of the first stone for the governor offices in the three new autonomous regions (DOBs).

Therefore, he said, an inspection will need to be carried out at the construction sites.

According to him, an agreement has been reached to resolve issues related to land between customary rights holders in Wouma and Walesi subdistricts, Jayawijaya District.

He revealed that the Papua Pegunungan Provincial Government Office will be built on an area of 108.8 hectares. The construction site has been provided by the community in Walesi Subdistrict.

"For this reason, the opening of the access to the construction site is a joint responsibility—in this case, the acting governor of Papua Pegunungan, the regional secretary, the local police chief, the district military commander, religious leaders, the community, and customary rights owners," Wetipo said.

With such coordination, the construction of governor's offices would remain secure, he added.

He said the presence of the government in the areas will have a positive impact on people's welfare.

"The government is present here to raise the dignity of people and prepare facilities for the community welfare," he said.

The signing of the record on the government office construction was carried out on February 6, 2023.

The signing involved the acting governor of Papua Pegunungan, the regional leadership coordination forum (forkopimda), the community, and the head of the Papua Land Agency.

Wetipo said a land certificate will be issued, followed by land determination, and road access construction.

He further said he expects the community to support the construction of the governor's office.
