Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said the Java Jazz Festival 2023 held at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta on June 2–5, 2023 is expected to draw international tourists.

The number of foreign visitors to the international music festival is targeted to reach 10-15 percent of the total visitors.

"Thus, if there are 110 thousand visitors, it is expected that 10–15 percent of them are international tourists," he said while speaking to the media here on Friday.

Thus, the jazz music festival could help achieve the 8.5 million international tourist target for this year.

Uno said he is optimistic that the international tourists who attend the jazz music festival would have a higher-than-usual economic impact, given that tourists usually spend more money at festivals.

With the assumption of 10 thousand to 15 thousand international tourists attending the international jazz festival, the economic impact could reach US$15 million–US$20 million, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy’s estimate.

The figure will help Indonesia achieve the economic target of Rp162 trillion or around US$10.92 million from a total of 3 thousand events scheduled in 2023.

"The key is that the more people coming into the event, the better it is for economic circulation. Therefore we provide convenience for events; their economic impact is massive," Uno explained.

"This has been validated with various held events, such as G20 last year and this year’s ASEAN chairmanship," he added.

Moreover, he said that the jazz music festival can help achieve the target of creating 4.4 million new jobs by 2024.

The Jakarta International BNI Java Jazz Festival 2023 is expected to impact 10 thousand people, directly and indirectly, the minister noted.

Because of this, Uno said that the ministry fully supports the jazz music festival event.

"We fully support it, starting from its unveiling, execution, and after the event is over, we will ensure that its impact is well-evaluated,” he added.
