Jakarta (ANTARA) - Suggestions on the procedure for issuing digital permits for events have been submitted to the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno informed on Monday.

“…currently, we are waiting for the final stipulation of the technical implementation of the procedure and we will coordinate with the national police (regarding the issuance of the permits)," he said at “The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno” here.

The Communication and Information Ministry will develop a platform or application for digital permit issuance for both national and local events, he added.

He emphasized that his ministry is striving to digitize all supporting aspects of the tourism and creative economy sectors to make everything easier for players in the sector.

Uno said he expects that through the digital platform, permits for events that involve huge crowds could be prepared in advance.

At least 3 thousand events with a value of Rp162 trillion (US$10.82 billion) will be held in 2023, thus they could serve as opportunities to create many new jobs, he noted.

The permit digitalization effort is in line with President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi’s) directive to develop a conducive business climate to revive the event industry, sports tourism, concert implementation, as well as meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions (MICE) activities, the minister added.

Meanwhile, the director of Java Jazz, an annual international jazz festival held in Jakarta since 2005, Dewi Gontha, said that digital permit issuance would make it easier for event organizers.

She informed that currently, her party has to coordinate with many institutions and agencies, including the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry, to obtain a permit for events.

Hence, she said she expects that the one-stop digital service will support event industry actors in obtaining event permits.

Earlier, Uno said that the issuance of event permits in Indonesia would be made easier through a platform that integrates the permit issuance services of ministries, agencies, and the police. Thus, the cost for the services would be made transparent and accountable, he added.

The digital permit issuance service is targeted to be launched in 2023.
