Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Digital technology is currently one of the six mainstay economic drivers of Bali Province, Governor I Wayan Koster said while opening the 2023 Bali Digital Festival (Digifest) II here on Friday.

"We apply six mainstay sectors, firstly, agriculture with an organic system, marine and fisheries, manufacturing industry and industry based on Balinese branding culture, micro, small, and medium enterprises and cooperatives sectors, creative and digital economy sectors, and tourism sector," he expounded.

Koster said that digital technology has become the mainstay for developing the economy to make it more healthy and ensure its quality and continuity.

The digital technology sector has become essential for Bali's economy after the COVID-19 pandemic, which affected its tourism and economy, he added.

"We are learning from the pandemic because more than 54 percent income of Bali's economy is from tourism and during the pandemic, it dropped for more than 2 years and the impact was profound," he explained.

Then, after Bali's economy revived, he said he found that the province’s economy improved even when the tourism sector had not fully recovered, reflecting that a shift had occurred.

Therefore, he is making efforts to support the development of digital technology through events that are related to science and technology development, one of which is the 2023 Bali Digifest II, which will be held from June 2–4, 2023.

Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Abdullah Azwar Anas who was present at Friday's event expressed appreciation for the event which, according to him, has encouraged the community's involvement.

Support for Bali Digifest was also voiced by Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo, considering that Bali has advanced in digitizing its economy, including by supporting BI's programs.

"Indeed, we have made Bali Digifest an integral part of Indonesia's financial and economic festival," Warjiyo said.
