"So how the QRIS, which has been (massively used) in Bali, becomes more (commonly used)," BI Governor Perry Warjiyo said in his speech at an event entitled "Ubud Art Market Go Digital and Ready for QRIS" in Gianyar, Bali, on Saturday.
The use of QRIS will allow merchants to receive their money right in their bank accounts, without having to wait three to five days, he pointed out.
"Now merchants can use their funds right away to purchase, resell, get benefits, and improve the welfare of family and people," he added.
Warjiyo said he expected all merchants at Ubud Art Market, Gianyar, to use QRIS.
The use of BI Fast can also help make transactions easier as it allows money to automatically be sent to bank accounts.
He highlighted the need for the regional government to pursue the electronification of transactions, as that would help multiply regional revenue.
It is expected that the Gianyar government can increase its regional revenue from Rp1.3 trillion (US$87 million) to Rp2.5 trillion (US$167.8 million), he pointed out.
Warjiyo also commended the renovation project that has been undertaken to make the art market more comfortable for visitors.
Meanwhile, Head of the BI’s Bali Representative Office Trisno Nugroho expressed his administration's commitment to pushing for the massive use of QRIS and digitalization in the region.
"Digitalization has become one of the driving factors in Bali's economy," he remarked.
He urged the regional government to inform BI of any merchants who have not adopted QRIS yet so that the bank can assist the merchants.
"We promote digitalization in all sectors," he added.
According to Nugroho, QRIS is an efficient, cheap, and safe modern payment system.
Bali is one of the top ten users of QRIS in Indonesia, even though its population is only about 4 million, he said.
Nugroho said that according to his administration's records, there are 633 thousand merchants who have adopted QRIS and 743 thousand users, with 3.5 million transactions recorded per month.
