Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Bambang Soesatyo delivered the remarks in a statement received on Tuesday.
The resolution could involve carrying out mapping or validation of areas that have no access to Internet services or "blank spots" and areas with low Internet penetration levels, he noted.
Soesatyo made the statement in response to data from the Indonesian Internet Providers Association (APJII), which showed that as many as 60 million citizens do not have access to the Internet.
In addition, there are three provinces in Indonesia that have the lowest Internet penetration— Highland Papua (42.57 percent), West Sulawesi (60.78 percent), and Central Papua (61.46 percent).
He asked the government to carry out mapping so that special attention can be given to areas that are facing issues with Internet access.
He said that surveys of locations for the plan to build or expand base transceiver station (BTS) towers need to be carried out promptly in an effort to resolve telecommunications signal limitations.
The MPR Speaker also asked regional Communication and Informatics Offices to cooperate with the APJII in carrying out surveys to create synchronized data, which include the availability of legal land and the unavailability of Internet access.
"Thus, by carrying out the data validation survey, it is expected that the realization of the telecommunications towers' construction acceleration can run according to expectations and reduce blank spots in recorded areas or 3T (underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost) areas," he said.
He further said that, for equal distribution and to reduce digital disparity in Indonesia, he had encouraged mobile carriers to invest in areas where Internet quality is not yet maximal.
