Jakarta (ANTARA) - As of May 31, 2023, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the anti-investment scam task force (SWI) have successfully made 155 illegal lending platforms stop operations, an OJK official has informed.

"Until May 31, 2023, SWI put a stop to 15 entities who offered unauthorized investment, and follow up with the findings of 155 illegal lending platforms by halting the operations of all illegal entities in question," chief executive of financial services monitoring, consumer education, and protection at OJK, Friderica Widyasari Dewi, said at a press conference here on Tuesday.

She informed that in the period from January to May 31, 2023, the agency received 121,415 requests, 8,428 of which were complaints, 35 contained reports regarding violations, and 713 were about disputes under the authority of the Financial Services Sector Dispute Resolution Agency.

Of the complaints, 4,438 pertained to the non-bank financial industry, 3,949 to banks, and the rest to the capital market, she further said.

On account of the overwhelming number of illegal online lending platforms and reports, the agency hosted 812 events to educate people, she added. As of May 31, at least 162,528 people across the country had participated in these educational events, Dewi revealed.

She cited Sikapi Uangmu (Manage Your Money), a minisite or application that provides informative content on financial matters, as an example of such efforts. The site has created at least 174 pieces of content to better inform the public regarding financial issues, she said.

Moreover, the OJK has also pushed for massive education through many methods, such as face-to-face, online through the Learning Management System (LMS), and social media platforms to improve people's financial literacy and inclusion, she pointed out.

The efforts have been pursued in order to address the issues revolving around consumer protection in the financial services sector as well as to promote financial literacy and inclusion, Dewi added. (INE)
