"At the peak of the event, children will be entertained with various festivals, games, photo booths, traditional games, music parades, and so on," Semarang Mayor Hevearita Gunaryanti Rahayu said here on Friday.
Rahayu added that her staff recently held a coordination meeting to discuss the readiness of this year's HAN celebration with Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Bintang Puspayoga.
Some 12,000 children from throughout the country are expected to participate in the summit, which will be divided into 2,000 children attending offline and 10,000 online.
Leaders of ministries, institutions, national children's forums, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and recipients of the child-friendly city award will be present at the event.
Before the summit, Rahayu said, 700 children from all over Indonesia will take part in the 2023 National Children's Forum (FAN).
Children will also be invited to interact with each other in fun and traditional games, a city tour, and other interesting programs.
This year's HAN, held on July 20-23, carries the theme "Indonesian Children Rise and Move Forward Together for a Long Impact.”
Iconic destinations in Semarang City, such as the Sam Poo Kong Temple, Kota Lama (Old Town), and the Great Mosque of Central Java (MAJT), have been prepared as part of the activities.
The summit will be held at the Simpang Lima Square.
Minister Puspayoga nominated Semarang City as the host of this year's National Children's Day because it was considered to have a strong commitment to tackling women and children issues.
