Semarang, Central Java (ANTARA) - The government of Central Java province is developing a virtual school program for children living with disabilities and children from low-income families.

Head of the Central Java Education and Culture Office Uswatun Hasanah said here on Thursday that the school will be different from regular schools because the learning time will be flexible and will adjust to the level of the students.

"The concept is to accommodate children from low-income families and children with disabilities who do not pass the regular PPDB (school selection and admission program)," she explained.

She said that remote learning through a virtual school program has been prepared since 2019.

According to her, the virtual school for children living with disabilities and children from low-income families will also be different from the online learning conducted for regular school students during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hasanah said that under the program, the office will provide gadgets and Internet packages to students in sub-districts that do not have high schools and vocational schools.

She informed that in the initial stage back in 2020, the Central Java government opened a virtual school at Kemusu 1 Public High School and Brebes 3 Public High School.

In 2023, the office will expand the virtual school program.

The dissemination of information regarding the program will be carried out by education offices at the district and city levels.

Prospective students who wish to join the virtual school program can contact the nearest public high school. If the minimum enrolment of 30 students is met, classes can be opened.

However, if the number of registrants is less than the minimum, the school will coordinate with other schools to meet the minimum number of students.

Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo said that the virtual school program is meant to help junior high school graduates who are facing problems enrolling at a high school.

If the virtual school program for the high-school level generates good results, the Central Java government will build cooperation with universities to expand the reach of the virtual school program.
