Cirebon (ANTARA) - The government is targeting to get one million people registered as beneficiaries of the Pre-Employment (Prakerja) Card program this year, which has proved highly beneficial, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has said.

"We target to register one million people to the Prakerja program this year," Minister Hartarto informed in Cirebon, West Java, on Friday, after meeting with Cirebon Prakerja alumni.

The minister stressed that the program offers a lot of benefits to the people, noting that it has helped people get jobs or even start their own businesses.

He said the government has continued to provide the finest services to job seekers, adding that the program constitutes one of the government's efforts to prepare the people with the relevant knowledge and skills so that they can get employed or create jobs for others.

Minister Hartarto said that a number of the program's alumni have utilized the assistance of Rp2.4 million (US$160) provided under the program for starting their own businesses.

"This (program) is very beneficial to the people as it helps them to get jobs or become entrepreneurs by providing them with pre-employment training courses. In fact, numerous beneficiaries have used the assistance as capital for their businesses," he added.

"So far, more than 17 million people have benefited from the Prakerja program," the minister pointed out.

In Cirebon, Minister Hartarto also held a discussion with local alumni of the program, many of whom extended gratitude to the government for conducting the program.

"I appreciate all of you who are present here. You all have a remarkable fighting spirit. Next, we will facilitate you to connect with job markets," Hartarto said.
