"When the business succeeds, usually, the students will drop out because they are falling behind in studies. However, if their studies are going great, the business is abandoned," Acting Director General for Higher Education, Research, and Technology at the ministry Nizam stated at the launch of the 2023 Freedom in Entrepreneurship Program accessed here on Monday.
According to Nizam, either to succeed in business but having to drop out or the other way round is a lose-lose situation.
The program aims to prevent the recurrence of such incidents, Nizam stated.
Hence, Freedom in Entrepreneurship can serve as a solution to address the risk of dropping out usually occurring among students, who engage in entrepreneurship, he noted.
"(It is) because students, who have the spirit to (run businesses), will be coached by mentors, so they can sort themselves out and become successful business players," he explained.

The program will impart theoretical and practical knowledge to students by preparing them through an incubation program involving business partners, he elaborated.
Students participating in the program will receive 20 course credits, so they need not worry about their education, Nizam stated.
"I expect the higher-ups in higher education, rectors, department heads, and the lecturers to encourage their students to participate in the program," he affirmed.
Presidential Regulation Number 2 of 2022 outlines the government's target to have a million new entrepreneurs by 2024. Freedom in Entrepreneurship is a form of the ministry's efforts to support the goal.
The program allows students to learn and develop themselves as business players through activities outside the classroom.
The program is conducted in collaboration with the relevant tertiary institutions to hone entrepreneurial skills, increase experience, and develop the students' capability for work.
