Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chief of the Presidential Staff (KSP) Moeldoko has asked higher education institutions to focus on character education besides pursuing academic achievements.

"The role of higher education institutions is to strengthen the character of young people. Don't ignore character education and only boast about academics," he said at a national seminar on the 59th anniversary of Jakarta State University (UNJ) here on Monday.

The KSP chief, who delivered the keynote speech at the seminar, stressed that character education is very important for strengthening ideology, religion, responsibility, and discipline.

According to Moeldoko, strengthening the character of youth is a long-term investment for realizing the goal of Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.

With young people of strong character, Indonesia can face any challenges in the future, he said.

"We are now facing a global phenomenon that is very complex, risky, and dynamic. For that, let's prepare young people who are strong and able to compete in the global arena," he added.

The government has prepared several strategies to solve human resource problems, especially in the education sector, which include the Smart Indonesia Program (PIP).

It has allocated a budget of Rp21.7 trillion (US$1.4 billion) for PIP this year, he added.

"This shows the government's seriousness in expanding access to education so that no Indonesians will be left behind to achieve their goals," he said.

The government is also preparing a large framework for the implementation of the National Talent Management (MTN) program.

The program is expected to serve as a platform for managing the country's best talents in various fields such as sports, cultural arts, research, and innovation.

"I assure that the government is present to take care of superior talents, and the presidential decree for the big design is being prepared," he said.
