Depok, West Java (ANTARA) - The Lulut Nambo Final Waste Processing Site (TPPAS) in Bogor District could help solve Depok City’s waste problem, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil has said.

"The Lulut Nambo TPPAS is the solution for Depok. Later, we will discuss further about waste recycling," he added here on Tuesday.

He informed that all of the waste from Depok City will be sent to Lulut Nambo TPPAS.

"Depok will fully throw (its garbage) to Lulut Nambo TPPAS to be used in an environmentally friendly project," he said.

Earlier, West Java legislator Hasbullah Rahmad pushed for making the Lulut Nambo TPPAS operational in 2023 as waste processing machines have already been installed at the facility.

"We hope that it can operate this year; the obstacle was that the third-party company did not have hard cash because it turned out that the budget reached trillions," Rahmad said.

To accelerate the operation of Lulut Nambo TPPAS, the West Java provincial government will add a budget of Rp60 billion (US$3.9 million).

"At least the machine has already been installed. Hopefully, garbage can be thrown there this year," he added.

Lulut Nambo TPPAS will use machines to process waste to produce briquettes for fuel.

The West Java Environmental Office has opened opportunities for third parties to bring in machines to process large volumes of waste.

However, the waste processing machines at Lulut Nambo TPPAS are not adequate for handling large volumes of waste.

"The current machines are not enough for handling large volumes. We need a large machine to maximize the processing of waste from Greater Jakarta," he said.

Meanwhile, the Depok City government has asked the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry to assist with the overcapacity problem at Cipayung Landfill (TPA).

"We have asked for help from the central government so that waste at the Cipayung Landfill site can be handled properly, thus reducing air pollution and landslide hazards in Sanggrahan River," head of the Cipayung Integrated Service Unit (UPT), Ardan Kurniawan, said.
