Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Women's Empowerment and Children Protection Ministry appealed to people to get in touch with social institutions, such as the Family Learning Center (Puspaga), to consult about addressing familial issues.

"People should reach out to institutions that offer services, such as Puspaga, to get (social) services if there is an issue in their family," Deputy for Children's Protection at the ministry Nahar stated here on Monday.

Nahar deemed this initiative as necessary in order to prevent the occurrence of untoward incidents if familial issues went unchecked, such as a mother committing suicide after allegedly killing two of her children.

The tragic incident that took place in Jember, East Java, led to the remaining child becoming traumatized, as the child witnessed the deaths of the mother and siblings, he explained.

Nahar revealed that the ministry ensured that R, the five-year-old child, will receive necessary help in order to facilitate recovery from the traumatizing event.

"Currently, R is under supervision of the Jember Social Affairs Office and supervision of the Jember Regional Technical Unit of Women and Child Protection," he said.

The Women's Empowerment and Children Protection Ministry will ensure that the second child, who still lives, will get protection through recovery and accompaniment services," he emphasized.

For the time being, R lives at a medical personnel's house located near the parents' home in order to allow better access to health facilities, he revealed.

"We truly hope that the second child, who became a victim, can recover psychologically, so as to be able to grow and develop as they should and happily socialize with peers of their own age," Nahar stated.

The ministry commended the Jember Government for immediately issuing a circular letter to prevent the recurrence of similar instances of suicides, he stated.

He expects that the circular letter can serve as a reminder to people and their fellows in neighborhoods to empathize with other families' issues.
