"With the situations of the upcoming demographic dividend that we are facing and will face, the country should prepare its best measures," he stated in a workshop on the roles and benefits of Omnibus Law on Job Creation for the youth at Andalas University here on Tuesday.
According to the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency population projection for the 2020-2050 period, Indonesia's population will reach 324 million by 2045.
"What is interesting is that by 2032, or nine years from now, Indonesia's population will reach 300 million," the special staff noted.
Indonesia's population in 2032 is expected to increase by 100 million as compared to that in 1998, he stated, adding that the demographic data showed that members of the productive age group -- those aged between 15 to 60 -- would comprise majority of the population.
Budimanta, who concurrently serves as secretary of the Omnibus Law on Job Creation Dissemination Acceleration Task Force, stated that reflecting on the productive age population, Indonesia would experience a demographic dividend for 18 years starting from now.
Subsequently, Indonesia will bear witness to an ageing population, wherein the elderly will begin dominating the productive-age population, he remarked.
To ensure the demographic dividend will benefit the country, the special staff underscored the need for maintaining political and social stability, as peace is the main requisite for national development.
"Hence, the main prerequisite in developing the people's livelihood is peaceful conditions," the special staff remarked.
Earlier, President Joko Widodo highlighted the need to improve the quality of national human resources to welcome the peak of Indonesia's demographic dividend, wherein residents of the productive age group constitute majority of the population, projected from 2030 to 2035.
At the final design of the 2025-2045 National Long-term Development Plan (RPJPN) launch event on June 15, he also stressed that Indonesia should win in terms of the quality of its human resources instead of merely based on its productive population number.
