Jayapura (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will embark on a visit to Papua to witness the development of Papuan children at the Papua Youth Creative Hub (PYCH) in early July, the Papua Provincial Government has revealed.

Papua Province Regional Secretariat's Acting Assistant of Economy and Welfare Suzana Wanggai stated in Jayapura on Wednesday that the provincial government and all its staff were ready to welcome the president's visit.

"In order to ensure that the president's visit goes smoothly, we are working with the XVII Cenderawasih Military District Command as well as the Papua Regional Police to establish coordination regarding technical matters," she said.

Wanggai further affirmed that the provincial government is working in coordination with all related parties to prepare to welcome President Jokowi in the hopes of proffering a memorable experience to the local residents, as she believes that they are keen to greet the head of state.

So far, President Jokowi has visited Indonesia's Papuan provinces on 16 occasions. As cited from the website of the Cabinet Secretariat of the Republic of Indonesia, during his first term in office, the president had made 12 trips to Papua.

Meanwhile, during his second term as Indonesian president, Jokowi promised to visit the Papua region twice to thrice per year.

During his visit to Papua in March 2023, President Widodo inaugurated the PYCH, distributed staple commodities at Youtefa Market in Jayapura City, and conducted inspection of the food estate in Keerom District, Papua Province.
