Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI)-Jakarta Office has facilitated 4,200 members of the Teen Red Cross (PMR) that will participate in the 9th national forum Jumbara on July 2-10, 2023, at the Way Handak Agro Tourism Park, Lampung Province

"This Jumbara is held every five years, and this is its ninth edition," Head of Jakarta PMI Resource Development Syarifuddin noted here on Wednesday.

Syarifuddin explained that Jumbara seeks to evaluate and train PMR members as peer educator agents.

Six trainings were provided in the classroom, while one field training was held at Bumi Kepanduan Sentul, West Java, on June 16-18, 2023.

A total of 4,200 participants from novices to intermediates and to the senior level, across Indonesia, will join in this once-in-a-five-year agenda.

While releasing the Jakarta PMR contingent that will participate in the Jumbara activity, Jakarta Provincial Social Welfare Bureau Head Wahyu Haryadi called on members to stay healthy during the event and continue to gain achievements.

"The achievements must be maintained and improved in order to realize the vision of teenagers, who have leadership traits that are honest, healthy, caring, creative, cooperative, friendly, and cheerful," he stated.

He also praised the parents, who had guided, motivated, and allowed their children to participate in Jumbara activities.

PMR, under the PMI, which is based in schools or community groups, has the purpose of developing youths to be ready to become PMI volunteers in future.

Those in early adolescence, or in the age bracket of 10-12 years, who are members of PMR, are considered "peer leaders", while those aged 12-15 years are trained to become "peer support", and those in the age band of 15-17 years are named "peer educators."

According to the Jakarta PMI website, PMR activities include aid collection in schools for disaster victims; social services, such as visiting hospitals, nursing homes, or orphanages; student blood donation; peer training in the awareness of HIV/AIDS; art competitions; and attending international friendship programs.
