Palangka Raya, Central Kaliman (ANTARA) - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) anticipates misconduct in the financial services sector targeting people with disability.

Head of the Central Kalimantan OJK Otto Fitriandy stated that due to their limitations, disabled people are prone to being targeted in the financial services sector.

"Hence, by prioritizing people with disability as the target of financial literacy and inclusion (program), the OJK and government can give extra attention as well as prevent crimes in the financial services sector (targeted) towards people with disability," he noted in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, on Thursday.

In the 2023 financial literacy program, the OJK has prioritized disabled people as a target, among other groups, such as those in remote areas; micro, small, and medium enterprises players; as well as students, he elaborated.

Physical, mental, intellectual, and sensory limitations impede the group in effectively participating to the fullest, thereby hindering them from meeting their rights like others would, Fitriandy pointed out.

"This gap in rights fulfillment becomes a particular concern of the OJK and government, (so) prioritization of disabled people as targets for financial literacy and inclusion (is deemed crucial)," he remarked.

Moreover, the group is prone to such crimes, in particular, owing to their limited interactions with the public, coupled with the low literacy index, he affirmed.

By prioritizing them for financial literacy and inclusion initiative, everyone is expected to gain financial access, thereby promoting welfare and equity, Fitriandy affirmed.

He noted that in the 2021-2025 National Financial Literacy and Inclusion, each year, the prioritized target for financial literacy and inclusion had been outlined. Each target represents all segments of Indonesians, including people with disability, he noted.
