Jakarta (ANTARA) - The implementation of the Grand Design of National Sports (DBON) should be flexible to accommodate various dynamics and developments in order to improve achievements in all sports, emphasized Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo.

"We will support and review the DBON together to modify it according to recent dynamics so that it can truly enhance achievements in all sports," he said after opening the congress of the National Olympic Committee of Indonesia (NOC Indonesia) in Jakarta on Friday.

DBON is a long-term master plan for national policies on the development of educational sports, recreational sports, sports achievement, and the sports industry for the period of 2021–2045. It was stipulated in Presidential Regulation Number 86 of 2021 concerning DBON.

The master plan prioritizes 14 Olympic sports: athletics, badminton, rock climbing, artistic gymnastics, weightlifting, bicycle racing, archery, shooting, swimming, rowing, karate, taekwondo, wushu, and pencak silat.

In addition, it focuses on 5 priority Paralympic sports: para-badminton, para-powerlifting, para-swimming, para-table tennis, and para-athletics.

However, the minister stated that if there is any sport that has not been included as a priority sport in the DBON but has the potential to achieve world-class results, the government will certainly give it special attention.

"We, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, strongly agree to revise the DBON, including regulations regarding promotion, demotion, rewards, and punishment systems," he added.

He also mentioned that the ministry will collaborate with NOC Indonesia and the National Sports Committee (KONI) to improve the DBON.

Earlier, during the congress opening, Raja Sapta Oktohari, the general chairperson of NOC Indonesia, stated that only about 35 percent of sports participated by the Indonesian contingent at the Cambodian SEA Games held on May 5–17, 2023, were DBON priority sports.

These included athletics, badminton, artistic gymnastics, weightlifting, bicycle racing, swimming, rowing, karate, taekwondo, wushu, and pencak silat.

Indonesia participated in a total of 31 sports at the Games and emerged as the overall champion in 8 sports, consisting of 6 priority sports (badminton, weightlifting, cycling, E-sports, pencak silat, and wushu) as well as 2 non-priority sports (tennis and volleyball).

The congress, which aimed to elect the general chairperson and deputy chairperson of NOC Indonesia for the 2023–2027 period, resulted in the re-election of Oktohari as general chairperson, while Ismail Ning was elected as deputy chairperson.
