He informed that the trip has been planned to return Prime Minister James Marape's visit to Indonesia last year.
"On July 5, I will continue my visit to Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea. This return visit is by invitation from Prime Minister James Marape," Widodo said during a press conference at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport here on Monday.
Besides Marape, the President will also meet Papua New Guinea's governor-generals during the visit.
He is also expected to attend the inaugural Indonesia-Papua New Guinea business forum and meet with business representatives.
Prime Minister Marape visited Indonesia on March 31, 2022, and met President Widodo at Bogor Palace.
During the official visit, the two leaders discussed the importance of enhancing land, sea, and air connectivity between the two countries, which share New Guinea Island.
Widodo also said he expects that more opportunities will become available for Indonesian construction companies to develop connectivity and infrastructure facilities in Papua New Guinea.
The president's visit to Papua New Guinea will take place after the conclusion of his visit to Australia from July 3 to 4, 2023.
Widodo left Jakarta for Australia on Monday to attend the 8th Indonesia-Australia Annual Leaders’ Meeting with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Sydney.
Widodo is scheduled to return to Indonesia on July 6, when he will land in Jayapura, Papua, to attend the Papua Street Festival there the next day.
