Payakumbuh, W Sumatra (ANTARA) - The upcoming Botuang Festival in Payakumbuh, West Sumatra, will showcase various arts and culture inspired by bamboo, according to Ridha Ananda, Acting Mayor of Payakumbuh, on Sunday.

The festival is scheduled to take place on July 13-15, 2023.

"As the name suggests, this Botuang (bamboo) event will feature various arts and cultural activities centered around bamboo," he said.

The festival will include music and dance performances, an exhibition of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and other activities related to bamboo.

The festival is part of West Sumatra's prominent tourism event, listed in the 110 Kharisma Event Nusantara (KEN) by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.

"This positions the Botuang Festival in Payakumbuh as one of the top cultural arts events in West Sumatra that can be enjoyed by tourists," said Ananda.

The mayor invited all parties, especially tourists, to participate in this cultural arts event, which had been put on hold for years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Luhur Budianda, the Head of the West Sumatra Tourism Office, stated that the festival contributes to the development of the tourism sector in the region.

He mentioned that almost all districts and cities in West Sumatra have their own unique tourism events in an effort to attract more visitors.

The province's tourism sector is being revitalized this year under the Visit Beautiful West Sumatra 2023 Program.

Budianda believes that more tourism events will attract a greater number of tourists, ultimately boosting the regional economy.
