For this reason, the handling of violence against women and children should also be improved
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Bintang Puspayoga has highlighted the importance of the Women and Child Protection and Human Trafficking Directorate of the police for the better handling of violence against women and children.

While the system that allows collaboration between all service provider units has been running well, the Women and Child Protection Unit (UPPA) within the police organization still needs to be strengthened, she said.

This is to ensure that there are no victims who do not receive services based on their needs, she explained at an event entitled "Police UPPA's Experiences and Challenges in Handling Violence against Women" here on Monday.

This aligns with the 1945 Constitution, which states that the fulfillment of the rights and provisions regarding protection for everyone, specifically women and children, is the state's responsibility.

This also refers to the principles of "no one left behind" and "no violence against women and girls."

"Protection of women and children from various forms of violence became an important point for the improvement of human resources life quality as a whole," the minister said.

As per data, women make up almost half of the Indonesian population, while children make up one-third of the nation's total population.

"For this reason, the handling of violence against women and children should also be improved," Puspayoga said.

According to the Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry, to this day, Indonesian women and children are still very vulnerable to various forms of violence.

"According to the National Women Life Experience Survey in 2021 and Children and Teenagers Life Experience National Survey in 2021, while the prevalence of violence against women and children has decreased, the figure is still very high," the minister noted.

This is also supported by data from the Women and Child Protection Online Information System (Simponi PPA), which shows that in 2020–2022, the number of violence cases and the number of women and child victims increased.
