"We too also urged the municipal government to give special attention to cases of sexual violence that target underaged kids. The provincial government only facilitates coordination, but the ones who have (authority) over the jurisdiction need to pay attention to their own places," Agustina stated in Batam on Saturday.
She said that supervising children is important, as it can determine the future of Indonesia.
According to Agustina, the contributions of parents and the social environment to child supervision is necessary.
"We will consistently improve monitoring. From some time ago, we have put in efforts to supervise. However, this -- integration from the family as well as communication -- are important, so we can supervise together," she remarked.
Agustina affirmed that Batam City, through its offices, has formulated certain strategies to bring down the rate.
"Like in Batam City, there must be its own office and so is other regions. I am sure that through collaboration, everything can be resolved," he remarked.
The Batam Municipal Government have given assistance for local victims of sexual abuse, both women and children.
The head of Batam's women's empowerment, child protection, population control, and family planning office Novi Harmadyastuti stated that its Sekupang regional technical unit of that office is ready to take in reports from people that came forth with cases of sexual violence.
"Should there be violence, please report to the regional technical unit. There is assistance and advocacy," she stated.
Citing the office's data as per June 2023, Harmadyastuti pointed out that 47 cases of violence against children as well as 10 cases of violence against women were recorded.
