"This cooperation (agreement) is related to commodity trade in the border, bauxite mining, tourism, investment, and others. They are interested in establishing trade and investment relations with us," Chairman of West Kalimantan Kadin Arya Rizqi Darsono stated here on Thursday.
According to Darsono, the signing of the cooperation agreement was witnessed by the Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Indonesia's Consul-General in Kuching.
Some investors from Sarawak are interested in building a resort in Temajuk, Paloh, Sambas District, owing to the proximity to the Sambas-Sarawak border.
The KCGCCI also showed interest in investing in the bauxite mining and downstream industry.
"Malaysian business actors see Temajuk as a very beautiful area that has potential and is strategic, as its location is close to Sarawak, which can attract tourists from Malaysia," he stated.
West Kalimantan has the largest bauxite reserves in Indonesia.
"We encourage them to invest in the bauxite and silica sand downstream industry," he remarked.
Darsono noted that the investment climate in Indonesia, including in West Kalimantan Province, is very supportive, as the licensing process is carried out online and integrated with no hassles.
"Licensing for the non-metallic minerals mining sector has been handed over from the central government to governors and other (sectors) have also been carried out through the OSS (Online Single Submission)," he remarked.
A working group will be formed to follow up on the cooperation between West Kalimantan and Sarawak.
"Cooperation is very important among ASEAN states. Moreover, the 2023 ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) will boost to prepare for the ASEAN Summit this September," he stated.
