Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) said that it is commited to accelerating digital transformation of tourism and creative economy players in Indonesia through the Baparekraf Digital Innovation Lab (Bedil) program.

The program is a part of the ministry's efforts to take advantage of the number of Internet users in Indonesia, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, said in a statement released on Thursday.

According to data from We Are Social, the number of Internet users in Indonesia stood at 212.9 million as of January 2023, with Internet penetration was recorded at 77 percent.

"The value of the digital economy in Indonesia in 2022 reached US$77 billion. This figure places Indonesia as the country with the highest digital economy value in ASEAN," he said.

Bedil is an assistance program for supporting digital transformation at five super-priority tourism destinations (DPSPs).

The program encompasses the creation of audio-visual content for social media and creative products digital marketing, which are expected to be the new media for creative economy players to sell their works.

This year, Bedil is focusing on the photography sub-sector in Borobudur and Yogyakarta DPSP with the theme "Photography and NFT Introduction."

Fifty selected participants will attend classes and get assistance for six months, online and offline, under the initiative.

Meanwhile, Director of Digital Economy Management at the ministry, Yuana Rochma Astuti, said that the activity will be divided into four phases: participant dissemination and registration phase, Bedil program kick-off phase, incubation/mentoring phase, and evaluation.

"Participant registration will be open until July 19, 2023, and this program will be opened on July 21, 2023, in a hybrid format," Astuti informed.
